Gaza CIVILIAN deaths considered

 The Liberation of Nazi-Occupied France involved Allied Bombing in the 5 Provinces in Normandy before and  after D-Day in 1944 and cost 52,000 French CIVILIAN lives. 

Tragic indeed,  but also  in no way *Genocide*.

So estimated WW 2 French Resistance fighter, Journalist and author Henry Amouroux, 1920-2007,  and across France 1,570 French towns or cities were bombed by the Allies during WW 2

That puts the  devastation in Gaza into some kind of historical  context  - but does NOT invalidate the considered professional judgment published some time ago by  550 senior retired  Israeli figures, ex-IDF Generals, ex-Intel chiefs, ex-Police chiefs and ex-Diplomats  [ including former Labour Party PM, as LTC, ex-CO of *Sayeret Matkal* Sp Forces Bn [ =  SAS or Rangers ],  and ex-IDF Chief of Staff LTG Ehud Barak ]  that  continuing  IDF action in Gaza was unjustifiable as Hamas & Pal Islamic Jihad no longer posed any *Strategic Threat* to Israel.

My considered judgment is that NOT the Israeli goal as such -  indeed the strict DUTY of ANY Govt in Israel to destroy the truly genocidal Jihadists of Oct 7, who perpetrated  mass Rapes, 251 kidnaps and nearly 1,200 murders - and then on TV in Lebanon undertook to *repeat Oct 7 again and again until Israel  was annihilated* -   but  the indiscriminate WAY Israel chose to wage war on Hamas was deeply  flawed in 2 key  ways  - and this led to unprecedented global condemnation, and indeed to much outrage  - 

 [a] dropping 2,000 lb US-made Bombs in the densely populated urban areas of Gaza was utterly unjustified, and could not possibly avoid excessive civilian casualties, and

 [b] targeting the identified  homes of LOW-RANKING Jihadists was also ethically  indefensible - based on the  reported use of the AI-generated *Lavender* Target List of 37,000 men linked with Hamas or Pal Islamic Jihad. 

IF - if - attacking militarily *High-Value Targets* such as [a] key commanders   - eg the 5 regional Brigade COs and 24 Bn COs in Hamas  - or [b] key technical specialists,  such as in or supporting Rocket crews - WHERE and WHEN they were found, even in their own homes, was ethically defensible when a strict and urgent  military necessity, that was still a vastly different MORAL issue from targeting the identified HOMES  of *Low-Value Targets* - which would also explain the horrific scale of devastation in Gaza  seen repeatedly on TV. 

And Israel  neither can  - nor needs to  - wipe out every last member  in Hamas or in Pal Islamic Jihad.
