The brutal poison still in our midst
Cowardly Provo IRA thugs on Oct 20, 2007 murdered PAUL QUINN, 21, from Cullyhanna in South Armagh, battered to death with their Iron Bars, while both JOE RAFFERTY and JIM CURRAN in Dublin, as well as ROBERT McCARTNEY in Belfast were all murdered by them in 2005.
All personal grudges or revenge. And years after the April 10, 1998 Belfast Agreement.
While Ireland, from BALLYINABY to Ballymurphy to Ballyseedy, holds even one of these savage and never-de-commissioned gangs, we will never be at peace.
THAT is why treating the Provos - either South or North - as just another normal, democratic party is not only daft but extremely dangerous.
And why The Leader of the Opposition Micheal Martin is absolutely right to utterly reject any kind of alliance with them - as morally repugnant to any decent Irish people.

Credit especially due to The Leader of the Opposition, Micheal Martin, and also Jim O'Callaghan in FF, as well as to Brendan Howlin and Alan Kelly in Lab.
But none due to Leo Varadkar.
Next task is to identify, suspend and investigate the TOP Justice Civil Servant who took Garda Commissioner O'Sullivan's sinister 2015 phone call and then kept his Minister in the dark - and the one [ probably the same man ] who told Fitz to do nothing when he sent the May 15, 2015 Smoking Gun email to Fitz [ which revealed O'Sullivan's outrageous strategy against that decent, courageous and rightly relentless man, Garda Sgt Maurice McCabe ] but told her to do nothing. She fully deserves to go - for doing nothing - but he should go for so ordering her.

Gerry Adams is now 69. He has many permanent monuments - the 1,771 graves of the people murdered by HIS Provo IRA gangs since 1970. Not to mention the very many more people maimed - in body and/or mind by his gangs.
That pile of [ at least ] 1,771 bodies makes him [ via HIS Provo IRA gangs ] over 7 times more lethal than the English serial murderer Dr Harold Frederick Shipman [ 2 years older than Gerry ] who was also *active* over a similar time period [ 1975 to 1998 ]. Provo IRA were *active* from 1970.
But is that really a fair comparison ? After all, even Shipman was somewhat humane and used Morphine while the Provo IRA blasted people to bits with Gaddafi's Semtex. And the also bearded Shipman was jailed and hanged himself in jail. And Shipman also did all his own dirty work.
Did Gerry spent the 24 hours of his 69th birthday reflecting for 49 Seconds in turn on each of the 1771 victims of HIS Provo IRA ?
Did he reflect that they are 25.67 people murdered for each year of his sinister life ?
1 murdered every 2 weeks.
Gerry really made a difference. A vast difference.
And this unrepentant gang-boss regrets nothing.

The very early childhood smell that never left Liam T. Cosgrave
Friends and relations recall that the memory of Liam T Cosgrave was incredible - even to the very end. And for stories from his childhood.
One was that of the smell of burning timber from age 3 - when an Anti-Treaty IRA gang burnt their home. Like Arlene Foster seeing her RUC father Con John Kelly crawl into the kitchen of their small farmhouse in Dernawilt on the Fermanagh Border, with blood streaming from his head after the Provo attempt to murder him [ typically when off-duty ].
Those memories forged a Steel which never left either of them. They could never forget such horrors or also the ideology and gang behind those horrors.
Remembering and telling those truths - about the grim and never-changing reality of terror - makes us free. And determined to resist them. Not wishful thinking or evasion or silence.

Fair hearing - or absolute tyranny ?
No worker, in any land or sector, should ever be instantly fired with NO prior hearing. That is a fundamental principle and an issue of strict Natural Justice and Due Process, and it is also recognized by Irish Courts as a binding duty on ANY employer [ including Govt ] under the rights inherent in the Irish Constitution. Yet the London Editor of the Sunday Times Martin Ivers has now done so - last Sunday - with a columnist for their Irish edition, Kevin Myers. The instant dismissal was even broadcast on British Media before Myers was even told.
A few lines in this one column [ now recognized by Myers himself as ill-judged ] were referenced by London - both the founding Chair of the Irish Holocaust Memorial Cte [ Ollie Donohoe - a former Radio Producer and then a trade union official ] and the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland have declared that in their judgement and experience, Myers is certainly no Anti-Semite. Indeed I and anybody in Ireland knows well how consistent and forceful he has always been in defending the Jewish People, as well as the right of the UN-mandated State of Israel to exist, and to do so in peace and security - like any other State.
I now have 2 choices. Either -
{A} continue to buy this paper as I have done every Sunday all my adult life, and so now collude with this London Editor in this grave wrong, or else
{B} no longer buy it and thereby refuse to collaborate in this fundamental violation of this universal and fundamental right of ANY worker.
I know where I stand, and where I have always stood.
Arbitrary power belongs to Absolute Monarchs - not to Employers in 2017.
And certainly not to London Employers over Irish workers.
This is a war - launched by the London Editor and no Irish person should surrender. This defensive and necessary struggle has nothing to do with Myers himself. I will miss this paper but not as much as I would miss the right to a fair hearing for ANY worker prior to dismissal.
