The solidarity of the Irish with the Palestinian. Is it genuine?

It's the Brits fault! Well according to my dad anyway. See in 1972, following troubles in N.Ireland, a young IRA member fled to... Israel actually. He got to a Kibbutz (Magal) where my dad spent some time before enlisting. That person is/was called Sean (he can't remember his last name)and he first told my dad of the 'Loyalists' and 'Republicans' as oppose to 'Catholics' and 'Protestants' which how N. Ireland is normally presented. He also introduced to him the similarities between the Republicans struggle in Ireland and the Zionist struggle. But what happened as international terrorism and violence intensified in the 1970's various and ideologically unrelated groups collaborated with each other .The UK pressure against the IRA made it too comfortable for the Fatah to gain access to them. Giving the crucial diplomatic relationship Israel has to uphold with the UK, a new twisted narrative was born. Really I don't think any more Seans would think to find refuge in Israel in the near future.
